Trial of Petroleum 9
July 24 - July 25
Nine #ConscientiousProtectors are accused of locking on to the doors of the Intercontinental Hotel back in February, and superglueing their hands to the doors of three of the entrances to prevent oil and gas industry delegates arriving to the annual Petroleum Week conference.
24/25 July is the date of their trial in Hendon Magistrates’ Court.
International Petroleum Week is an annual exclusive conference for fossil fuel companies to “network and form new partnerships”. One of the arrestees said “They continue to put private profit over human life. The fact that they are still talking about acquiring new fossil fuel reserves at this point in the climate crisis is not only deeply immoral, it is evidently criminal. We all have a moral duty to stop them. We currently have enough fossil fuel reserves to burn the planet five times over. Yet, fossil fuel companies are privately planning for four to five degrees of warming, which would see complete social breakdown.”
