Ealing Transition Event: 12 Years to Save the Planet
We hope you will be able to join us for our next event to explore responses to the question: ‘How can we as a community engage in local action and what steps can we take together to create a more sustainable Ealing?’
We will be welcoming Dr Neil Jennings from theEaling Transition Event: 12 Years to Save the Planet, who will talk to us briefly about the benefits of climate action for the UK. The recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report on the consequences of a 1.5 degrees Celsius rise in global temperatures sent out a stark warning on the need for a rapid decarbonisation of society. Dr Jennings will present data on a number of benefits of climate action in the UK – focussing particularly on the health, economic, security and equity benefits of carbon reduction.
Dr Jennings‘s presentation will be followed by a sharing of proposals for local actions and initiatives which have evolved from our series of recent events on sustainability. This part of the event will also present examples of local community initiatives that have made a difference.
Key local concerns identified have been about air pollution and how this is affecting children’s physical & mental development and therefore the need to reduce car use around schools.
We will then move into ‘Open Space‘ mode, where people attending propose ideas for development in a series of table discussions aimed at identifying practical steps which can be taken forward locally. These will then be shared and, we hope, will translate into local action.
This will be the fourth Open Space event Ealing Transition has hosted, and we have found the Open Space approach extremely valuable for generating new ideas and projects.
